The big difference I like is being able to rapidly scan the first messages without waiting for my overburdened ISP to download a page to me. Headers are misleading. Often a good topic reveals two lines of nothing, and vice versa. My favourite mail system remains the old Blue Wave off line packet system which was popular back in the BBS days before the www swallowed them. Of course that system would not suit web sites that rely on frequent page downloads for advertising. Anyway there's more than one way to skin a cat. I like this site and it is more topic focused than LP.
