I've just come back from the health clinic and was very surprised with what I received. It seems to contradict what others on this forum were told.
I started my Hep A&B (combo) shots several weeks ago. I decided on my own to get going with that one. So far, I've had 2 out of the 3 shots. The clinic agreed that I had done this, and that it was good that I hadn't waited until the last minute.
Then they gave me ONE shot. It was also a combo vaccine that included tetanus, diphtheria, and polio. (This was free)
I was told that I didn't have to take any Malaria medication. Just use lots of bug spray containing DEET. Wear long sleeves and pants in the evenings. I also mentioned that we want to visit Lombok and/or the Gili Isles. We were told that there was a small chance of getting Malaria in that area, but it was not a big enough threat to actually take medication. We were told that it did not justify taking drugs for one week before, during our holiday, and for four weeks after....just for one night in the Lombok area. Just to reapply our bug spray often and use mozzie nets if possible. Also, not to hang aroung lakes where there are usually more insects.
We also didn't get a shot for Typhoid like several others on this forum have received. Were told it was not necessary.
Just wondering what others thought. I looked back through the archives, and it seems that everyone else received EVERYTHING.

P.S. What kind of things can you buy at a pharmacy? I've been to some countries where you can buy anything from antibiotics to amphetamines. I'd prefer not to pack everything with me if it is readily available in Bali.
Thanks
