Hopefully I can assist you, my children too are asthmatics, I try very hard to limit anything that brings on an asthma attack. MSG is used widely in Indonesian cooking however if you want MSG to be left out in any cooking you must demand that no "bumbu masak" be used. (boom boo-mus uck) Just say, ' jangan pakai bumbu masak' If you request this anytime you order your meals you should be looked after. Email me if you have further questions, my wife is Indonesian, she too hates MSG.
