I stayed at the Tjampuan in 1984, 1987 and also in 1991. It was wonderful. All rooms are in little four-plex buildings (two up, two down) made of woven bamboo with traditional balinese thatched roofs and carved doors. Sensational view out over the rice terraces. Beautiful gardens and very musical frogs. Superb location just outside of "downtown" Ubud (about two blocks) and across the street from Murni's Warung, a fine place to eat. Rooms are not air conditioned, but all have two walls of screen (with curtains to cover completely if you wish) and ceiling fans and were completely comfortable. Superb service, including doing of your loundry (their spelling, not mine). Breakfast, which is delicious, is served in an open air restaurant overlooking the rice terraces. Small, not heated pool for those who must have a swim. Lovely lovely place. I placed an inquiry myself a few weeks ago to confirm that it is still there, and it is, and about $60-65 US dollars a night, I think. Additional recent information would be appreciated by me as well as you. Please report if you stay there! Thanks, susan@NetEcon.com
