The main crowds and hassles on Bali are centered in the southern part of the island (primarily the areas closest to Denpasar, Kuta etc). My word of advise would be to get yourself away from all that and visit other parts of the island. while you will still find hawkers, heat and some of the other unpleasantness, it's nothing compared to what people experience in-and-around Kuta. Also, remember that you are traveling in the "developing world," which demands a bit of pliancy and understanding from the traveller.
Armed with patience, understanding and a sense of humor you will be able to enjoy all Bali has to offer!
