I agree with jg. People who write to the forum often have extreme views - to the point of being rude to those who happen to diagree. The world isn't perfect but you can enjoy Bali if you go with an open mind. Don't be rude to the hawkers (I've seen it many times). Avoid eye contact and be firm - never loose your cool. I've been on short stays in Bali 6 times this year - always in Kuta. It's true - dirty and noisy - but it can be great fun and it's an experience being there. My parents stayed for 4 nights in the Holiday Inn in Tuban in April. They're in their late 70's but still got around, did the tours and had a marvellous time.
