I recommend staying in Ubud & Lombok. Ubud has a lovely atmosphere about it - different to the Kuta/Legian/Sanur areas. There's always traditional dance performances & they're advertised all over Ubud. In Ubud you are close to many temples & also to the monkey forrest which is really worth visiting as this has many small temples hidden away off in the forrest off little tracks & stairways. Ubud is very arty too, mainly for paintings though. Stonecarving & woodcarving are close by & so is gold & silver jewellery making. You can organise a private bemo or go on group tours of them. Ubud has some fantastic restaurants, one of my favourites being Wayan's Cafe on Monkey
Forrest Rd. Theres also the Lotus Pond, the Duck Inn & lots of others, just ask other tourists who have been there for a while. As for romantic places to stay, I'm not too sure. When we were there we stayed at Saren Inn. This was very basic but nice but you'd probably like something a little nicer for your romantic getaway. Ask a travel agent. Lombok has all of the above going for it too. Its quiet, has beautiful beaches & good food. Different again in atmosphere as its a Muslim Island. We stayed at Batu Bolong cottages, right on the beach for Rp40000 per night. The staff are friendly & helpful & the restaurant is lovely.
Hope I have been of assistance, Have heaps of fun!
