Fundoola - over the 20 or so years I've been going to Bali, we've stayed at Nusa Dua, Kuta (the younger days!), Seminyak, and Ubud, but we keep on coming back to Sanur. Honestly, as little as five years ago it lacked a few creature comforts, but nothing you couldn't live without...today however, it lacks nothing except crazy nightclubs and hustle and bustle, which is just how we like it! You can shop in peace, eat really good food, access gourmet delis, the local market, an ocean beach protected by a reef so you can actually swim in it, plenty of spas, the beach market sellers, top notch private villas and hotels, a beach path goodness knows how many kms long, and footpaths along the main road you won't break your ankles on.
For me - there's no alternative place to "base" ourselves, we can venture into Kuta/Tuban for a day if we want to, and still return to the tranquility of Sanur every night.
