The big day is planned for early next year.I am thinking of some forward planning. We have a close Indonesian friend who has a good job & her future husband also has a good job & they both earn a decent income by local standards. These days I think all of us are used to going to weddings where the young Aussie couples have been living together for a while or been out of the family home for some time so you just put cash money into a wishing well because they already have most things they needed to set up a family home.We have been a close friend of the Balinese bride to be for a rather long time & would be more than happy to give money but I really don't know if it is appropriate to ask IF the couple would prefer cash or a specific gift (as in a gift list - as we used to have years ago in Australia) for the new home they will set up together. I am leaning towards cash at this stage as it has been mentioned in passing during conversations about possibly having their honeymoon in Australia but this would not have been in any way a hint for money - just the fact that she wants to spend time in Australia again ! I just don't want to offend by giving cash,if that is inappropriate by Indonesian customs for weddings. What has anyone else done re wedding pressie when they have gone to a close friends wedding in Bali ? Have you given cash or a gift that you thought was suitable or have you asked the bride or groom that you were friends with - what they actually wanted as a gift for their new home that they would be setting up together ?
