Stayed at Mandira for a month not long ago, always feel safe there, one tourist had the right idea about this resort he said ,'Mandira is like an island inside the island'.

There are many mini marts just up the road in Padma Street or walk down the beach road, up Melasti street there is another on the corner of Garlic Lane.

Shopping by yourself through the day is fine, no problem at all, there are a number of shopping centres now where you won't get hassled by street sellers if that bothers you.

ketuts is in Garlic Lane, gang 2, coming off Melasti street, first laneway to right, a brick wall runs down one side, you will see ketuts sign and all the aussie shoppers, they will show you which shops they own. All fixed price, you don't have to ask for it.

And as for the transvestite mugger hubby and I ran into her in Garlic Lane, well she ran into us, I was too busy laughing at how ugly she was to be frightened, she's a shocker, don't know if she gets any business, poor guy that took her on would have to be desperate. If it is only her you are worried about, she only comes out late at night you would probably be home by then. Mandira is safe to walk to, there is one dark section near the end before the main entrance but if you venture out early and not home too late there is always people walking down there, just hop onto the back of them, I have done that before when I have had to walk by myself. In saying that I am always careful, have a over the head cross shoulder bag with thick strap and my hand on it.

Go over and enjoy yourself, you will get there and be completely relaxed and think what was I worried about.
