A new petition could become a law.
Unmarried visitors caught having sex in Indonesia could soon face legal ramifications if a petition put before the country's Constitutional Court is passed into a law. The petition, led by conservation group the Family Love Alliance, is aimed at stopping same-sex relationships in Indonesia by proposing to criminalise sex outside of marriage.
Human Rights Watch Indonesian researcher Andreas Harsono told news.com.au if the petition was passed, travellers visiting the country who are found to have been intimate without being married could potentially be charged. He continued, saying the petition was put in place to target the LGBTI community because homosexuality still isn't accepted in Indonesia. News of the petition comes days after Bali was hit by a 5.7-magnitude quake on Wednesday. Despite evacuations around Mount Agung (72kms from the resort area of Kuta), which may potentially erupt, visitors are still welcome to the island. In fact, many Aussies were and are still there on school holidays.
