AA offered me a refund as well. The refund would take the form of a credit shell which I would have to use within 90 days.
AA previously offered me a credit shell for a late OOL to KUL flight. It took 6 months of phone calls and e-mails before AA finally coughed up the credit shell.
Keep all AA paperwork, itineraries and e-mails. The AA Call Centre kept telling me that they had "lost" these items when I rang them.
