Hi there
Yes and No
If you have a full motorbike license in Australia then you go to your RACV (or equivilent in your state) and get an International Drivers Permit. It will endorse the bike license. Then you're all OK and you will be insured (if your TI has it covered) and you can ride over there no dramas. They cost around $40 bucks to get in Oz.
If you don't have full motorbike license in Oz then you can get a license over there which lasts 3 months, however you will not be covered by any insurance if you have an accident.
Many many people ride over there by getting a license within Bali, howver, I don't think I'd risk it. But, each to their own.
If you do ride, make sure you wear helmet, they (polisi) will get you if you don't.
Riding around the main areas like Kuta, Legian etc. is quite simple if you know how to ride. You'd be lucky to move past 20kms. Riding out on the busier highway type roads are the most dangerous in my book. I've ridden in Bali for years, riding around Kuta and the like is easy.
Enjoy your trip.
