JBR Part 1 - Ubud - Pre-Elopement
This was a special trip to Bali....our elopement! We secretly married 'legally' at the registry office back home and then jumped on a plane to Bali the next day to elope without a soul suspecting a thing. Ubud is my most favourite place in the world, so it was the only option when deciding on the location.
We arrived in Ubud and spent the first two nights at a little place called Nyoman Karsa Bungalows at the bottom of Jln Monkey Forest. We have stayed a couple of times before, and it is a cheap and simple hotel with a fabulous pool overlooking some rice paddies.
I had booked dinner at Bridges and had noticed on the website that you could pre-purchase a love padlock engraved with our names to place on the bridge. Yes it is schmoopy, but we were eloping afterall! A very cute touch. Anyway, this is a stunning restaurant and definitely the place to come for a romantic dinner. We went early to partake in happy hour and 80k++ cocktails (loved the mangopolitan). Food was lovely and atmosphere beautiful for our first dinner. Loved it!
Up early the next day for a walk around the town near Jln Bisma - so peaceful and quiet in the morning. Breakfast was at my fave Ubud restaurant, Three Monkeys, on Jln Monkey Forest. We then went on the scooter through the rice paddies along the path where Sari Organic and Pomegranate are located. If there is one thing you do in Ubud, it is to take a walk down this track.
I then spent the rest of the day shopping. I bought lots of soap from Kou and Sensatia, homemade cards from Kado, coasters from Bali Zen and a 'crazy' dress from Pygmees (no idea where I will wear it!). Lunch was at Petani which is a newish restaurant on Jln Hanoman just before you turn into Jln Monkey Forest, although service a little slow.
A bit of relaxing by the pool and then back on the scooter to Pomegranate around sunset time for a drink. Another pre-dinner drink at cute cafe Mingle on Jln Dewi Sita, which is a great spot to watch the world go by. Got to love 85k cocktails that are then 2-for-1 at happy hour! Dinner was at Tutmak, also on the same street.
Next day was another early morning walk, which included a stop back at Mingle for breakfast. I went and got my nails done ready for the big day at Bali Hair and Beauty on Jln Hanoman (opp The Alaya), which is a slick new salon using OPI polishes.
Then it was finally time to head to Alila Ubud for the wedding...
