Arrived Sunday night after very pleasant Virgin flight from Adelaide. Good food and drink service because flight was only about half full. Through VOA and immigration in about 40 mins despite quite long lines. Found driver from Bali Getaway who took us to Swiss Belinn hotel in Padmautara st Legian. Can't fault this hotel for the price.$35 with Getaway deal. Staff are fantastic and room is great despite no balcony. Rooftop bar and pool are just great and the breakfast selection is excellent.
First day walked to Kuta for massage at one of my favourites then renewed acquaintances with friends at Mozzarella at Magani. Dwi, Eka, Ana, Sari, Sugi and others lovely as always. Went to Jadi Cafe at Seminyak for dinner. This is areal hidden gem. Fantastic food cooked fresh by Sri, the lovely owner from Borneo. She cooks in her backyard kitchen in lovely setting. You have to wait a while because nothing is pre-cooked. Lime chicken is just divine. A great experience so we will return. Cost $20 for 2 with drinks.
Next night excellent Indian food at Atithe in Bene Lane. Once again very good for $27 with drinks.
Beautiful dinner at Mozzarella Magani last night. Great steak but price has jumped considerably from last year. Still very good value by Aussie standards.
Situation with beer at mini marts is very confusing. Some have it but many don't, or keep it out of sight. Traffic is horrific but keeps moving so you do get there eventually. Bali has lost none of its charm for me and people are still lovely and always remember you so spend a lot of time talking. They are very concerned about quiet time and put it down to Bali nine experience but I don't believe that will put true Bali lovers off at all.
Had to get new battery in watch yesterday which cost me a whole $2 from Harry the watch seller in Melasti Street. I have bought several from him over the years and he's always good for a laugh. I ask "How much for a new battery?" And he says,"2 million." So I say "Ok $2." That's what I pay !
More walking and exploring today then off to Lombok for a few days. More to come later.
