I believe that during the communist clean out (a good excuse to get rid of ones neighbour?!)showed the Balinese to be among the most violent of Indonesians.
The Javanese in fact had to tell them to quell their enthusiasm somewhat!
There is plenty of historical data but a fictional book "Bones of the Dark Moon" present an interesting story, much of which is based on fact.
