paying the extra and flying with Virgin. I know many have had issues with Virgin, but maybe I'm one of the lucky ones - and I fly there 5-6 times each year. I've never been "bumped" or had any flights cancelled. Thats over 30 flights. Sure, its cost me more overall, but at least I generally leave on time, don't get bumped and don't have flights cancelled unless there is a unforeseen issue - mechanical or otherwise.
The bottom line? Pay a bit extra and enjoy your time away. Thats reflected in the service.
PS: Before I get flamed by all and sundry, Yes, I've used JetStar in the past. No problems in recent times, but have been badly burned by them in the past. Still gun-shy from these experiences. IMHO, JetStar treat their passengers with contempt. ("Theres still many more mugs who'll buy tickets for the next flight").
