we did this trip in late january this year. we ended up flying lion air in the morning. the hotel we stayed at on gili t (alam gili) organised transfer from the airport to teluk nare harbour then on the hotel's own speed boat. air fares 1 way were about $25pp. transfer each way was about $90 for 4 of us each way. we chose to fly as the weather in bali wasn't the best in the fortnight leading up our departure.
last month i went to gili air on eka jaya fast boat from padang bai. it was a very smooth crossing but i was by myself this time (no kids).
long story short - in january i'd fly and take the short crossing from lombok.
