We did 10 days in Lombok (5 nights Senggigi and 5 nights Gili Air) back in May and absolutely loved the place.
If you've only got 3 days I'd do one or the other and probably not both.
From Senggigi you could do a village tour (pottery and weaving) and maybe a waterfall, and then take it easy looking around Senggigi on other days......maybe do a day trip only to the Gilis one day.
Personally I'd try to stay as long as possible and really get a feel for the place.
The Gilis (Gili Air in my case) was just great. We island hopped to both Trawangan and Meno one day and was good to see them also.
If I went back to the Gilis I'd definitely stay on Gili Air again. Much nicer I think and a good balance between busy Trawangan and mellow Meno.
