No problem using Skype.
I usually stay in Kuta and when on holidays regularly make business calls to the East Coast of OZ...clarity has always been very good, virtually the same as making a local call in Oz.
Last June, Skype (Bali) to land line (Oz)cost me 44c for 7 minutes..Skype to mobiles are dearer.
I would suggest to make sure you have automatic top up added to your account as it can be difficult to top up your account from overseas.
Naturally Skype to Skype is free but I have found the best way for clarity of communications for business is via Skype to land line.
I've also found Viber or Tango are good for social use.
Just a tip...if you have Skype credit make sure you make at least 1 call in 6 months otherwise you lose it...actually I just rang myself to roll over my credit :)
