We booked this trip 9 months ago, been here 3 weeks and have one week left. Just where does that time go. Dear husband (DH)and I arrived from Perth at 12pm flight, 40 mins late. We had booked Row 1 for the first time. Great amount of leg room Sixty mins through immigration etc, and met our lovely driver Mika who took us to our hotel Swastika Bungalows in Sanur. Our 4th time here. Up early in the morning and yes we were definitely in Bali. Roosters crowing, heat, smells and beautiful flowers. The staff recognised us which was lovely. Four days later, back to the airport to pick our DD1 (daughter #1) who arrived on the 12pm flight. 90mins through immigration etc. and 4 days later back to the airportt to pick our DD3 from NZ . 120mins through immigration..huge queues. Just incase your are wondering DD2 was unable to make it
We quickly got into a routine, breakfast then decided where to go for lunch and dinner. Big decisions I know. Swim in one of the 3 pools, read, eat and shopped.
Mika took us to two 1000yr old temples, the last one to Gunung Kawi. An amazing place had been buried for 100s of years and only rediscovered 30 or so years agoo. Many many steps down ( and it seemed many more coming back up) thank goodness for hand rails. On the way down were the usual stalls and believe me if you take an interest in a shirt etc =, they remember you on the way back up (plus they have a captive audience as you are trying to catch your breathe) Fifty percent off their price is about right, plus DH usually gives them a bit more for good luck. I bought s lovely patchwork quilt for $17. It was made from all the batik etc scraps and it is lovely to look at be reminded of Bali
This temple is definitely worth a visit, but bare in mind the steps.
From there we went to Kintamani volcano and had lunch at the Sari restaurant . Amazing seats on a balcony with wonderful views of the volcano. Mika was marvellous telling us the historyetc. From there to Ubud for a drive through. Traffic was very busy, back home via small villages. Only one driving scare when a motorcyclist came out from behind a truck without looking. Mika reacted so quickly, but it was very very close.
