So I think I left off after I mentioned Bambu......we dined In Style it was sensational really, ambiance, service and food.....all Indonsian menu, all we had was Devine, think soft shell crab, lemongrass skewered chicken, lamb and date curry, slow roasted duck, corn fritters, three heats of sambals...then deserts to die for with home made coconut or ginger ice cream, pandan crepes, sticky rice dumplings , java chocolate and peanut crepes.....yummo
Unfortunately next night we had another evening down the beach bar and decided to try the brand new Seminyak Italian at the brand new Double Six luxury hotel...this has just opened and so they are relly pushing the advertising big time, rooms apparently fully booked with amazing deals offered in Australia at the mo.
The hotel is owned partly by an ndonesian and Aussie Italian chef Rob Marchetti....well I'm sorry to say we were more than underwhelmed with the restaurant experience.....I booked the day before....
We walked from our hotel in 66 which was lucky as the traffic down 66 on a Sunday evening is absolute gridlocked for hours......if you were trying to get dropped off by a taxi to this restaurant you would not be able to get through.....anyhow as we walked we somehow entered through the driveway ? And ended up walking into the back of the resort...after asking three people directions......took a lift up to the second floor but found that is just for the hotel rooms and luckily we ran into a lady and she helped us get back down stairs and then across the foyer to enter into the back of the restaurant .......so we were sat at the bar first but then moved to our table which was set up for four so we moved to a bigger table....looks fabulous but totally impractical.....big booth with huge table but you can't sit close enough to the table to eat comfortably.., had to sit on cushions and have some behind your back and still leaning forward to eat.... wait staff have to lean so far to deliver food etc....
Only Italian wines on the menu, only two whites by the glass, neither to our Aussie taste really and cost us almost $16 a glass !!!!!!!
No toilets on this floor, you have to walk downstairs to get to them...only 3 toilets in ladies and it's single file only in there at the hand basin...way squishy ....I know I'm being picky but really this resort is based around this high end restaurant and apprently if you read Rob Broadfields review from last Saturdays west (and take any notice ) this is " the best Italian restaurant in Bali " sorry mate I cannot agree there.
A couple more little whinges...as I said we booked the day before....we were seated at what felt like the back of the restaurant , overlooking the lobby and car park !!! We saw other people walk in and had no reservation yet taken to the front overlooking the wrap around pool and beach front.....
They have dress code which you are told about when you book but saw at least one guy in shorts, singlet and thongs....if you are going to have a dress code you need to enforce it really....
And lastly on leaving we decided to leave by the front entrance .....what entrance ? You have to weave your way round now closed pool bar area and walk over a raised curved bridge over the pool , no railing ( looks pretty, totally impractical for anyone over 40) then down the steep front stairs with no handrail onto the footpath.....see ya later guys, sorry won't be back !!!
