Our flight gets in late at night so we will pay for VOA with 50AUD pp, x 2 get some change in IDR ($15 x 2 change) , use that to pay driver (or can do in AUD as mentioned). We won't need to buy anything that night as can use the bottled water provided + bintangs if we want them from the mini bar, and we'll go to Bintang Supermarket in Seminyak first thing next am. There's a money changer outside, if you change say $100 the first day, it's easy enough to check a whole number like that against the conversion rates and that's enough cash until you started. I'll be using ATM's from then on - just with my normal St George visa card and my partner's Comm Bank. btw there is a limit on how much you can withdraw from ATM's -that threw me at first as I was trying to change more than the limit and computer said no - freaked me out incase I was being scammed but there was a kindly security guard (this was at the back of Matahari Dept store in Kuta Square) who explained the problem to me. There are branches of Comm Bank with guarded security enclosures with ATM machines or they offer counter service. It's been a while since I've been in Bali but hopefully this info still applies and hope this helps
