It depends on where you want to go.
Garuda flies most routes, so if it is, as GaryD says, Bukitinggi you want to go to, then you can fly to Padang and go by road from there.
If you want to go to Banda Aceh, you need to fly Bali-JKT-Medan-Banda Aceh and then take it from there.
For Nias, you need to fly from Medan.
Lampung, you can fly from JKT.
Its a massive island, so maybe you need to think about where you plan to visit and take it from there?
