P.S,, Jetstar arrival. Both of us in wheelchairs were a bit flummoxed when we found a stairway attached at arrival instead of jetway. 10 minutes after passengers except us had disembarked, there was a bump on the opposite side, where a lift/gantry arrangement was revealed which took us down almost to the bottom. Then there was another small elevator in the corner to take us one by one to tarmac level, where awaited one wheelchair only; all good fun.
As reported in 01, we shifted with great speed to a first-class place in Jl. Dewi Sri, Seminyak, opened only two years. We were a little out of town and the traffic out there in the Sunset area was just as horrific as in Kuta, almost. The amount of swift, dazzling development out there is fantastic and varied, although best for those with frisky feet; Dewi Sri adjoins Jl. Kunti at one end and Sunset at he other
The Hotel Fontana was Italian themed and the menu reflected this although plenty of Asian choices and others were also featured. The room was ample, although we plebs did not rate a balcony because we were in a Standard room, however, our days of displaying our beautiful bodies have been curtailed by Anno Domini effects; not a problem. As well as a safe there was a cool fridge, which was restocked with waters, juices and soft drinks, gratis each day in the room, which also had a second service (turn down) of the beds in the afternoon as well as a thorough cleaning and bed renewal each day.
We did a lot of resting for the first week, finding it hard to shift from the comforts offered indoors, after all that's what a resort is meant to offer, although Bali Blue Taxis were there by the time you walked from the room to reception, staffed always by English speakers, some of these Taxis imposed the RP30,000 minimum and some were more merciful; what's $3 anyhow.
Breakfast was in two separate ends of a large dining room; one end full of Asian choices with usually one or two Chicken,Pork, Beef, Sausages of beef or pork plus a range of noodles and rices with plenty of sauces available; eggs any way on offer and the cheese omelette was very saisfactory for this gutser.
At the other end, semi outdoor was a crepe stand with pancakes of all types cooked as you watched drooling and a goodies section wjich stacked on weight as you watched. Marie became hooked on the strawberry crepes and we both had a good plate of fruits every day along with juices.
Our sorties out consisted of visits to Carrefore, (not impressed) where Marie got stuck at the side of an escalator for want of an elevator; yes, you've guessed it, the Bali staff stood around giggling as usual in times of emergency and it was lucky that Serena our younger daughter was there to yell for the escalator to be stopped until a brawny young Oz guy came to the rescue, lifting Marie to safety amid the giggles of the useless fekken staff; when in Rome etc; visits to Bintang and Yopies adjacent and a few other faves in the area. Serena saved me a lot of grief by accompanying Marie in her shoppitation efforts as well as in G & T swigging where indicated. It was Serena who generously paid for most of our trip including the airfare, a great girl, we'll probably keep her on! No greater love can a young girl show than to take the onus of shoppitation off her Dad's aching shoulders. More nosh reports later in 03.
