Check the archives and the likes of filos bali, get a feel for the cost first. Do a google search, ask others , know how much is a reasonable price to pay.

Geneva and other fixed price places opened my eyes. I could buy far cheaper items in them (sometimes even Matahari's)than the majority of street vendors after a hell of a lot of negotiating.

When dicks start at hundreds of thousands of rp for a 25k rp item I don't even slow down they are a waste of time and energy.

Don't be discouraged and think you may have it wrong, there are many many stalls all selling the same knock off stuff.
