need to have US$1000 to secure visa?

Hi there, my daughter is off to Bali shortly and read on Virgin's website that you need to be holding US$1000 or equivalent or a valid credit card. Can anyone tell us if this is correct? I have had a quick search of the archives to no avail and we are hoping for a quick answer.. Thanks
