There is not a lot to do in Amed, but it is a perfect place to have a real holiday and some fabulous meals (we like Sails). There are no taxis but you can get a ride on the back of a bike for 10,000rph and it is pretty safe as there is not a lot of traffic.

The swimming is nice, bit the beaches are gravel, not sand. The pools at the hotels are good quality. There are some shops, but the area is not known for shopping.

You can go snorkelling or diving (there is a ship wreck that is well known). But I think diving is not really for amateurs.

There are a couple of bars with live music that are fun (tock cover bands at Wawa Wewe 1 on Saturday and Wednesday nights.

Watching the sun come up and the fishing outriggers coming home around 6.30 is amazing.

Holidays in Bali can be pretty busy with all the activity in the Kuta/Legian area and the shops/culture at Ubud. But Amed is the place to chill out and charge your batteries.

The area is relatively poor and the locals are very friendly, helpful and grateful that you have chosen to be there - well that's my experience.
