The police do checks now & again if there has been bikes stolen in the area, they will pull everyone over & check all paper work. Some times they will do the old head light not on & hit you with Rp 3000 fine, I have friend in the police & they all say the same, Bali is good many dumb tourist pay good money. A standard fine at court is Rp 25,000-100,000 depending what you have done. Riding in Bali is easy just follow the rules & you won't have problems, I have 3 bikes, simA, simC & carry a international licence, wear a helmet & have my lights on all the time. In 7 years of riding in Bali & Java i have been pulled over about 5 times & never paid any fines.
