(3/29/2014) PT Angkasa Pura - the managers of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport have announced that effective April 1, 2014, the passenger service charge or "airport tax" for departing international passengers will increase from Rp. 150,000 (US$13) to Rp. 200,000 (US$17.50).

The general manager of PT Angkasa Pura, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, told Bali Post on March 27, 2014, "The fee increase will take effects from April 1st as a compensation for the increased level of service that we are providing airport users."

Ardita said the increased charges were in concert with the additional services and facilities being provided the public in Bali. He cited the construction and renovation of the larger international terminal now covering 120,000 square meters and the creation of a domestic terminal occupying 65,800 square meters.

Ardita said the the increase in passenger service charges applies at four other airports in additional to Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport. Increases are also being implemented at Juanda International Airport (Surabaya), Sepinggan Airport (Balikpapan), Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (Makassar) and Praya International Airport (Lombok).

Because the domestic terminal is still in the midst of renovation, the increase in the domestic service charge in Bali will only take effect on August 1, 2014.

At that time, the passenger service fee charged to departing domestic passengers is now Rp. 75,000 (US$6.50), increasing from Rp. 40,000 (US$3.50).
