Gili Nanggu is one of the gilis in southwest Lombok, and the snorkeling is quite good there, but there are many others in the area, some with no tourist accommodation.
12 years ago Gili Trawangan was quite developed so not sure where you went? There were many hotels there. Of course not as developed as now. Back then Gili Meno was the more popular island as the big yellow Bounty catamaran used to come from Bali every day (which is why there is the big jetty there), that all fell apart after the Bali bomb.
Even in the early 90's when I first started going there, there were lots of places to stay on Gili T, but most were more basic than what is there now.
