bill was around 312,000. But on the right hand side was written 601,000 so I left 602,000. (made a mistake with zeros in my original posting) But when I went to the waiter he said I only left 452,000. He said he had already put the cash in the cash register. So he gave me the difference between 452,000 and 312,000. He said he thought I was giving that as a tip. So that would be roughly 140,000 tip, which he then returned to me. But I had actually given him 602,000. (I had a nice stack of blue 50,000 notes which I counted out carefully plus the 2,000 note. So I lost out there.
Really, the way the bill is written and presented it is misleading. At the bottom right of the bill is typed 'cashier number' then a hand written number in the hundreds of thousands. It totally looks like the bill for food and drink. I've never seen a cashier number on a bill before here or hand written anywhere.
My friend was very drunk but I was sober and I'm a 'bule' but I live in Java. He thought he made a nice profit off me. Well, he did but I got some of it back. He knew I had made a mistake giving too much but just took it all.
In general I have positive experiences in Bali and have been here maybe 30 times. But I won't be going back to Santa Fe, that's for sure. And their Chili Con Corne is crap!
