Best advise I can give you is to get out of Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and find a traditional looking warung on the side of the road, the ones the locals eat at, and get your Nasi Goreng from one of these places - any of them.
Most of the MG / NG in the tourist areas has been dumbed down, it's a bit like having Chinese food in Australia Vs in China - WAY better in China, again the Aussie Chinese have dumbed it down (unless you go to Chinatown type places, and look for the ones full of Chinese paople).
So it's a bit like that for Bali, find a warung with locals eating there, and that in most cases will be the better tasting version. Maybe its just me, but Indonesian & Balinese food NEEDS chili !
