I assume you paid the extra to knock off the excess. We didn't & it would have been worth it this time but not the other 50 we didn't claim, we rarely have anything go wrong luckily.
Maybe it depends on the illness? Our kids were very ill with a vomiting bug & I guess it's unlikely this could be attributed to pre-existing. My younger sons medical report mentioned his heart condition in medical history which I don't insure for & I thought just great! but it never came up.
