My brother once worked for a major Sydney newspaper. When I mentioned to him that journalists/photographers were using internet forums like BTF to obtain information for a future article or photo essay on Bali, he just laughed.
He told me that it was a regular practice for journalists/photographers at his newspaper to approach the editor for permission to write a Bali {insert a horror here} story.
When permission was granted, they would pack their family up and have an enjoyable family holiday in Bali, while charging as much of the holiday cost to the newspaper as they could. While they were in Bali, they would gather a few photos and quotes. Back in Sydney, they would sit down and write the usual Bali {insert a horror here} story.
