I was on honeymmon, with my new wife sitting with her back to a open air cocktail bar. Now and again rats would run along the straw roof.
The Balinese cocktail waitress would then expertly grab the rats by the tail and hurl them into a bucket of water. The cocktail waitress would then use a coke bottle to hold the rats under water, until the rats drowned.
My wife chatted away, ignorant of the drama behind her. An Englishman'was sitting next to me, facing the bar, on his first trip to Asia, said nothing but his face turned whiter every time another rat was drowned.
I told him "welcome to Bali".
