Having retired this year we decided to spend 3 mths in Bali and explore places I have wanted to see for a very long time.Just love Bali but very over the traffic jams and Kuta/Legian/Seminyak scene so headed to the north/east of Bali to escape the ratrace. We have stayed in Candidasa, Amed and Lovina before but found a beautiful little resort in Tembok...about halfway between Amed and Singaraja. Only 2 resorts in the area and surounded by local villages and right on the ocean .Spent many relaxing evenings having sundownwers on the terrace watching some spectacular sunsets then waiting for the lights of the fishing boats out at sea. Poinciana Resort is about a 3hr drive from Kuta and is a great place to recharge the batteries it also has a nice spa, good food and friendly staff from the local village and you can snorkel off the beach .From here we explored the mountains ,snorkelled over the US Liberty at Tulumban and took the fast boat from Amed to Lombok and Gilli Air. Just loved the mountain areas in Lombok of Senaru and Sembulan and Kuta beach Lombok.....must be how Bali was 30 years ago.....The absolute highlight of the trip was our trip to Flores, after reading about Flores on BTF we decided to spend a couple of weeks exploring this part of Indonesia.... flew to Labuan Bajo and went out to Kanawa Island , this is an amazing place for snorkelling/diving and of course a boat trip to Komodo was my bucket list . The dragons are really incredible to see but the whole day trip offered by the resort was spectacular...snorkelling at Pink Sand Beach ( on Komodo Is)and at Manta Point with the manta rays...full day for 350,000rp. We were fortunate to get a brilliant guide driver for 6 days and drove across Flores ,just loved the volcanoes and traditional villages and the scenery. Flores is so different to any other part of Indonesia we have seen . So now we are determined to return to our lovely hideaway in Bali and explore from there next year....Sulawesi looks interesting.....anyone reccommend other off the beaten track places to visit...
