Most phone cards over there are normal size but many sellers have sim cutters to cut down the card, but not all sellers have sim cutters. I would try to get a phone with a standard SIM.
I take my old HTC phone which has WiFi hotspot Capabilities. Then I WiFi to my tablet for internet use in the room etc. I find this works good for me using a simpati Sim Card. When out an about I can still search on the phone. So many places have free WiFi now it is really no problem
Just make sure whatever phone you get is unlocked. I have 3 old phones and if you ask your friends someone will have one in the drawer after upgrading.
