If in your hotel bathroom there is a floor drain grill (for overflowing baths etc) that exudes a scent of the drains below there is a quick fix. Just grab one of the hotel facecloths and wet it and wring it out (but is still quite sodden) and spread it over the vent. The wetness of the cloth seems to provide a barrier to the odourous air below. (May need to replace it daily after the cleaning staff have been).
