This is my second attempt at doing a JBR, my first attempt kept getting rejected so I will do this in several parts.
Day 1: Myself, hubby & son 13 who turned 14 whilst in Bali flew out from Perth on the 10.35am AA flight. Before we left I did the web check in and chose 3 seats in row 5 and also upgraded our luggage to 20kg. As I didn't double check my amendments, this was going to cost me dearly when we checked in to leave Bali, namely, 9 kg excess baggage which cost me $140.00. I just presumed the 20kg included our return luggage but I was very wrong. Oh well, you live and learn and that was a first for me.
Bali here we come...........
Landed in Bali, didn't have to do the bus across the terminal so that was a bonus. We were through fairly quickly although ended up having to wait approx 20 minutes for suitcases to be unloaded. Out into the smells and the heat of Bali. Taxi to our accommodation which was Champlung Mas in Legian, just off Melasti St. First time we have stayed here and after reading some very mixed reviews on a well know travel site, were pleasantly surprised by our choice. This hotel has 2 sections, the old original side and the newer side which is where we stayed. We had a huge ground floor balcony family room, very impressed. The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool and also the hotel day spa is located on the top floor. Included were 3 complimentary bottles of water every day and free wifi in the hotel lobby available. My only gripe after staying here would be the noise factor. The noise does seem to be amplified due to 4 storeys of rooms being built around the new swimming pool.
Checked in, and off to Bintang Supermarket for supplies such as shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, , mozzie coils, air freshner, drink mixers etc.
Caught up with friends staying in the old section of the hotel, had a look around their rooms (thought to self, glad we are in the new section)rooms in need of a bit of an upgrade although we did like the private courtyard they had, very traditional Balinese and the gardens were beautiful. We fitted in with their dinner plans so off to Bubba Gumps for dinner first night. Nice meal as usual, bit expensive by Bali standards, back to hotel for an early night. Woken at 11.30pm with late check in guests in the room next to us. I had to go outside twice and use the universal sign language for 'shut up'(index finger to lips whilst saying shooooosh). I don't care what country you come from, there is a certain time of the night when you keep your noise down.
