Make sure your MIL has visa to re-enter Aus. My friend got caught travelling from Aus to Bali on UK passport. She had to spend a day in at the Aus embassy in Denpasar and pay a couple of hundred dollars to get an Aus visa, even though she has Aus citizenship - she had left Aus passport at home - won't do that again.
