I stay for a month at a time and base myself in Legian for the duration. Then I do one or two overnighter trips elsewhere, keeping my cheapie home base room as well.
Don't write off the idea of Lovina. It might be a pricier sort of trip each way but you can make it a day trip there, and another day trip back by doing other stops along the way. It doesn't have to just be a straight transfer.
