Can't speak for all issues but when I went white water rafting in Bali or Paragliding in Turkey (ie jumping off a 2km high mountain and floating to earth) or Hot Air Ballooning, providing companies insisted I took out local insurance on top of standard insurance as latter often would not cover "misadventure". No activity gave a problem but aged in mid sixties considered was worth the few dollars involved for the excess cover. Could easily break a leg or similar and be out of pocket a fortune eg for return air travel if not covered due to small print when claim was made. Take out the extra and feel confident. Had a cousin in UK who went skiing in Switzerland and cost him 20,000 pounds for medical treatment and return to UK - all instead of a 20 pound (32 AUD) insurance. Not worth it.
Agree re definition of "best" in insurance companies. You often don't know till you claim what the exceptions are.
People seem to get het up on VOA. Bali will take most currencies and charge you the Indo rate giving you Indo change. Stated this the other week and was berated for complaining about the exchange rates given. Other person was right...I was moaning about $2 or so which is not beyond reasonable ; so just take the cash in whatever currency you use and pay up. Pretty good system compared to many countries.
