The above is not to be missed. A left-hand turn before C.D. and a 4k drive up-hill.

This walled village is the home of the Bali Aga, meaning 'outsiders' I think, who were pushed out by the advancing Hindus in the 1400's. They have different customs to the rest of Bali and are gradually becoming extinct, because of inter-breeding, which they used to think would keep the strain pure.

'Geringsing' is a priceless double Ikat weave found in only three places in the world and a great attraction to those interested in ancient crafts. The word means 'no sickness' and a small maybe 3 x 2' piece is often bought by high-class wealthy Indonesians for U.S.$200 to tack to their bed-post in order to avoid sickness. A full Sarong takes 3 months for a Granny strapped into her loom to make, purely from memory costs $5000 upwards and needs a permit to leave the country, only to accredited museums.
The Buffalo are all albino, the fighting cocks are dyed multi-colour and are petted and pampered all day by their proud owners who display them in front of their houses.I hesitate to mention that these men sit in the sun, playing with their cocks, all day; no, better not mention that as the snipers are still active.

Badak.
