Unless you go to Bali frequently you will not have any RP in you pocket. Change your $A before you leave home you will get lower rate than at the VOA which is the FIRST place in Bali you can get some RP. GaryD's post is what I have been doing for years and makes sense. Why change your money in Aust to RP, at a shocking rate. You can get your RP to pay the taxi etc with the change from the VOA. Then change four other money later at a better rate.
EXAMPLE- the local PO agency charge $132 for $100 USD. That is the equivilant of about 7800rp for the dollar not the approx. 9400 currently receiving in town.
