Last year handicapped children were taken from the villages (who supposedly get 10% of the collections) and given a new "mother", all for the sake of obtaining more sympathy and higher handouts. I have only seen 2 this year and don't want to think of what happened to last years ones, lets hope they have gone back to the village or at the very least are in an orphanage. Once they get too heavy to carry they are not wanted.
If the ones outside your hotel know that they are getting attention because of the eye they will not be in any hurry to get it fixed. It may not even be her child, even if she is breastfeeding it.
Sorry to sound so hard but with spending so much time here you get to really know the locals, who explain what it's all about.
