Tuesday Day 15

Woke up to a rainy day. Nyoman (driver), who always hangs outside Kumala Pantai agreed to take us to Uluwatu for the day for 350k rp. Sounds cheap, but really, he's just going to spend the day sleeping in his car and reading Bali Post....

It's been a few years since we headed down that way. we were blown away by the amount of development that has gone on. First stop was Padang Padang - went to have a coffee at Blue Heaven, but waiters were few and far between, so we hiked down to the beach. there was a japanese wedding and traditional ceremony happening at the same time. hubby took about 100 picks of a half-drowned chicken offering (that washed back up), which he reckons was gold, whilst i bargained with the ladies for a few sarongs - designs I hadn't seen at legian. Bit more expensive - 70k rp for 2. Low tide, so no waves - we had a fabulous swim; reasonably sunny, although Nyoman assures us it is pelting down at legian.

Up the road to Uluwatu for a gander. Wow, has this place gone up-market on us!! We had lunch at Single fin (owned by the same mob that own blue ocean and that other posh place adjacent at Ulu's). Hubby had seafood pizza and I went for fish with Indon sauces. Beautiful food, great lunch-time sized servings and reasonably priced. Hubby also tells me to make mention of the icy-cold BT's. this bar is on 2 levels. Whilst it was packed upstairs, we practically had the place to ourselves downstairs... Sometimes that extra flight of stairs is a killer.... Surf wasn't big - around 3ft (ok, huge by sunny coast standards), but I counted at least 80 boards out having a go - didn't look at all crowded. Added Ulus to the to-do list for a couple of night stay on the next trip. Please let me know of your recommendations of mid-priced places to stay? Even though we had a great day, I'm still miffed I'm not looking for mola-mola at Pernida.

Back to KP (yes, it was very wet at legian!), hubby picked up the next lot of pendants I ordered (so impressed was I with the first lot), whilst I wandered over to Briella for a last facial. This time I went with the loreal facial, which was fine, but wish I'd stuck stuck with the usual... Damn you upsell! Hubby ordered 2 more of these tree of life pendants (gifts for family). The guy we went with is just outside Royal Tunjung (near Sammy's).

Head down to Andy's for last-night sunset BT's. Yes, husband, i do need to buy more stringy bracelets, cosmetics, silver and whatever else the vendors are offering... i need to support the local economy! Half-way thru my last-minute shopping, it starts to rain. As we huddle under the umbrella, i notice a hot-looking bald-dude that hubby is chatting to. Gosh he looks like Kelly Slater. Later on as we are leaving, hubby says, "I think that was Kelly Slater". Couldn't google it quickly enough when we got home.... Jury is still out as to whether it was..... Nice bloke, whoever it was :)

La lucciola (my absolute favourite) for last-night dinner. Had a lovely Central Otago Pinot with shared carpaccio for entree. For mains, Hubby went with the usual seafood soup, whilst I had coral trout. Superb, as always.

Th eweather too if-y to chance the walk back. Had the biggest ever unit of a cabbie driver on the way home. Looked more like an islander front-rower from the Rabbits than a local, but he assured me he was 100% Balinese. Where do they grow them that big - he fair dinkum dwarfed that taxi?!
