We are the same, here 4 months and bring a fair bit with us. Canned red salmon, grated and block cheese, vegemite ($10 a small jar here), corn chips, rice crackers, clix, pickled onions (only cocktail available here) which I cyro pack with a little juice and then put inside a plactic continer, bitters (just about impossible to get here) to go in drinks, cuppa soups, etc. Just declare it and you should have no issues. I doubt if some of them could read english (or my writing) and just usually say snack food when I hand the form over.
The only issue I had was going through Aussie customs one year when I had in the hand luggage - vegemite was classed as a gel so that was taken, as was the 125gm cans of salmon (couldn't prove the liquid amount, I had about 20ml in the bitters bottle but the label said more than 100ml so that was taken, etc etc. I thought I was doing the right thing by putting it all together for the Bali inspection (if they asked) but learnt a lesson the hard way. Now in all goes in the checked luggage and no issues.
