I'm not sure about Bakungsari but most of the budget hotels have the safety deposit box at reception set-up.....a few of the more upmarket other hotels have it too. You can usually, after unlocking take your box back to your room or to the side of reception to sort your money or passports out or whatever. You could always place your money in seperate envelopes before they go into the box so you know you only have to grab an envelope at a time. Safety Deposit boxes are more than likely more safe than hotel personal safes as they need 2 keys to open, yours and the hotels copy, 2 keys into different locking mechanisms. Whereas the personal safes any room cleaner will know how to get into them. Most receptions in tourists areas have 24 hour availability.
We have a setup at our place where the personal safe is bolted to the wall inside a cupboard which has a seperate door over the safe with latch on it that you can use your own lock on, say the lock from your suitcase.
