How are they more dangerous? Cards can be, and are, skimmed all over the world. Bali doesn't have a monopoly on that.

Just recently it was reported that an ATM at my local shopping mall had been found with a device attached.

That's why I'm careful at home, just as in Bali.

Check the slot as most devices will come away (designed that way for stealthy removal by the scammers). Sometimes the keypad is monitored by a camera, so I hover over it while entering the PIN but they also use keypad pressure sensitive devices so check if the keypad looks a bit odd too.

It can happen anywhere. I really don't see how it's more dangerous in Bali.
